Critics have panned architect Rafael Pelli's designs for 15 Penn Plaza, claiming that the plans will ruin the Manhattan skyline and obstruct views of the Empire State Building. Mr. Pelli won't have to worry about obstructed views from his new 15th floor apartment, however. The architect, a senior partner at mega-firm Pelli Clarke Pelli, has just purchased a new home at 315 Riverside Drive.

Mr. Pelli will not want for space in his new 4-bedroom, 3.5-bath place. "It was really fabulous because there was a big, big living room and dining room," Brown Harris Stevens broker Lisa Lippman told The Observer. "It was just a special kind of space" added Ms. Lippman, who worked on the deal with Scott Moore. Mr. Pelli can try his hand at the culinary arts in his new eat-in kitchen, or kick back in his 212-square-foot master bedroom with views of the river.

The home was sold by David Doss, a news producer who has worked on The Nightly News with Tom Brokaw and Anderson Cooper: 360, and his wife, Christina Punier, who also works in news production. Mr. Pelli paid exactly the asking price, $4.195 million. The dowdy Art Deco co-op is a far cry from the slick glass and steel buildings Mr. Pelli is known for designing, but we're sure the architect has some impressive designs on the spacious interior.

Showing strong demand in the residential market, Ms. Lippman noted that the apartment went into contract within a month after being listed.
